Recovering from Religion

Unless you were raised by atheist parents, you probably had some recovering to do when you left religion. The purpose of RR is to provide a landing place for people when they jump from religion. With local support groups throughout the US, Canada, UK, and Australia, and real-time resources accessible to everyone, RR is where to turn when faith has lost its luster.

Has it Been Easy for Anyone?

Started by Nathan Hevenstone. Last reply by Loren Miller on Thursday. 8 Replies

I wonder if anyone who's gone from faith to non-faith has done it relatively easily? I ask because, for me, it's not really been that tumultuous. I guess it has a lot to do with my upbringing. Despite my family being really religious, it has also…Continue

Anyone still deal with anything like this?

Started by Starland Victor Seay. Last reply by blue pashmina on Thursday. 24 Replies

One thing I have noticed is a tendency to "doubt" my new path in life. I still want to reach for the Bible sometimes. I still hesitate somewhat when someone mentions Pascal's "Wager"...LOL! Even though I know that science teaches this and that no…Continue

Walking Away

Started by CD Free. Last reply by Diana May 2. 9 Replies

I'm guessing many here walked away from one religion or another. What religion did you walk away from? Did you look at other religions, if so what ones? What made you settle on Atheism?Continue

Maintaining family ties

I was adopted into a fundamentalist Seventh Day Adventist pastor's family. My parents loved me and I enjoyed a happy and secure childhood. Although I felt disappointed that I couldn't take dancing lessons, be involved with local theater or…Continue

writing a book is great, but if we are all contributing essays, are you willing to share the proceeds?

I would like a 10- 15 page story of how  you have seen the light and recovered from relgion. I am a former muslim and my story will be included in the book I am writing. I want one story from each religion

Speaking of religious self help and secular content, we have created an easy as heck to navigate website with all the content on one page.  It consists of FREE films, books, videos, links, etc. for those who need a help and support recovering from religion.  Go to http://www.charliescrusade.org.

Hello RfR.  I feel that I've recovered quite well and wanted to give back to the community.  So I'm going to hang around in case someone want's to talk... talking it out is the best medicine. :)

I guess it would be a smart idea for me to remember to post the latest podcast episodes here so they are easy for people to find. :)  http://livingafterfaith.blogspot.com/2012/03/atheist-preachers-yes-...

You shouldn't have any trouble finding us. We will also be wearing RR T-shirts and hats.

I can't wait to connect with RR people this weekend. I am so passionately excited about this organization and excited to see what it will become in the next 10 years!

Hey, does anyone know (Sarah, maybe you know?) if there exists a map somewhere online of the tables/booths that will be at the Rally? In other worsd, RR will be at booth #___, and so on. Thanks!

Hi Richard! Nice to see you here.

Comment by Sarah Morehead on March 15, 2012 at 11:25pm

Hi everyone! I'm Sarah Morehead, and in addition to this great community resource here at AN, Jerry and I would also like to encourage everyone to get connected to a local RR group in your area if you are at all able to do so. If you don't have an RR group in your area, it is very easy to start one, and we help every step of the way with personal support as well as connecting you to the entire network of RR facilitators.

Also, for anyone heading to the Reason Rally next weekend, or the American Atheist National Convention, please make sure to stop by the RR table and say hi! We truly enjoy meeting everyone, hearing your stories, and learning from your valuable experiences.

If you can't make it to DC next weekend, you can always contact us at admin@recoveringfromreligion.org, or on Facebook or Twitter.  As busy as we are right now, we do see the comments posted here and we're thrilled such a supportive community has come together.

Thanks for being you!
~Sarah
