Unless you were raised by atheist parents, you probably had some recovering to do when you left religion. The purpose of RR is to provide a landing place for people when they jump from religion.

I'm really happy that this group is on here - because I think it can be frightening for newly enlightened atheists to be dropped into the apparent piranha soup of AN - LOL - meaning that any supernatural irrational thought is given no quarter... which can feel like being eaten alive to the newly enlightened and as yet un-de-contaminated of religous indoctranation.
I enjoyed the Thanksgiving vs Tebowing Youtube clip in which Jerry Dewitt spoke. I can't seem to find the link here now, but whatever, it was in my e-mail notifications this morning and this is where it brought me. I just wanted to say thanks for posting.
I hope it's not out of line to post this here, but as an atheist ex-Catholic with an MA in theology (phew! how'd that happen?) I'd like to introduce anyone who is interested to a cool and funny book I worked on as a freelance editor and which is now out on the market. The New Revised Catechlysm is a parody of the old Baltimore Catechism, and of the Catholic worldview in general. It'll be appreciated especially by ex- and recovering Catholics but will also appeal to students of religion (and no religion).
There's more information on my website at this link. Please understand that I derive no income from sales of this book--I was paid for my services, but I loved the project so much that I want to help it become a big hit for my client. I'm also thrilled with the end product, which I saw today for the first time.
So please take a look. It's the perfect gift for the lapsed Catholic (or even still-Catholic-with-a-sense-of-humor) on your shopping list, and is available in print and ebook formats.
Thanks!
Hi Jerry,
That'd be great. :) I'll be in touch.
Many thanks!

Hey all, It's been a while since I posted on here... Hi to all the new people! :)
I just want to air something. As some of you know, I am an ex-Catholic and I am getting married early next year. But for some reason every so often I start to worry that a civil wedding isn't a 'real' wedding, that god disapproves and that all that Catholic stuff I used to believe is true.
I have rejected the Catholic faith (having been an Atheist for coming up to a year or so now)- but i wonder, why do these irrational and immensly powerful belifs still surface in my mind from time to time? why are they so hard to dismiss when they do? I KNOW intellectually that it is all non-sense but why does it still sometimes make me worry so much?
Have any of you had similar worries??
Darrel, quite so. You're right. I'll apologize to the preacher straightaway. Must be pent up hostility for what these televangelists and Sunday sermonizers are doing to people. Also, the Republican debates with the likes of Rich Perry and Michelle Bachmann are getting to me. Just to picture them taking over gets me incensed. The Supreme Court justices are six out of nine Catholics. Corporations are people too, right?
Look at what 9/11 has done to this country. Thousands of innocent lives lost, trillions in debt. The last ten years has ruined this country and religion has a lot to do with it. I felt a little anger was justified.
I’ll get on the preacher’s website and apologize right now.
