Hi guys!!! This group is awesome. I am doing an anthology of people leaving their religion.l would like a catholic story to be included as well 12 pages give or take is ideal. I want a  story of how a devout pious catholic "saw the light"

What do you think of the Church's opposition to having to offer birth control coverage to employees? There is a lot of discussion on our local tv stations' facebook pages. There are a lot of Catholic women who are posting that they agree with the church. I thought that was interesting, since I have seen studies that say 98% of Catholic women of childbearing age use birth control. I hardly know any Catholic families with more than two kids, so someone is lying here...

Eewww is right, Jeanne!  Now that I think about it, it makes me wonder what those celibate "men" were doing on the other side of the screen in their own dark box.  Now, all the religious garbage seems sooooo weird!

Hi Mark and please accept my apologies for not replying sooner! I credit my sons for my deconversion :) They actively sought out information about the falseness of religion after getting nonsensical answers from their high school religion teacher and priests. I questioned for years, but pushed those thoughts aside as 'bad.' Now I see those thoughts were perfectly normal and healthy.

Welcome Paula. I too am grateful for my cathoic schooling making me the atheist I am today.

I am proud to have raised two atheist kids too. Only one went to catholic school and only high school.
What was your reason for deconverting?

Another former catholic here! I spent twelve years in catholic school, but thankfully, we didn't attend weekly mass. I was skeptical for years, but pushed those thoughts aside - I was 'bad' to have such thoughts, right? My sons, now 24 & 21, attended thirteen years of catholic school, but both considered themselves atheist before they graduated from high school. I'm grateful that I taught them to think for themselves and question - that all rubbed off on me and I was finally able to admit to myself that I don't believe all the religious BS. What a free feeling :) Looking forward to past threads here!
