Religion has so many connections to political and economic beliefs, there needs to be a place to identify linkages, problems, goals, options, action plans and evaluation criteria.

An eternal question, what is the purpose of life?, occupied philosophers’ thoughts throughout history. Stone pictographs reveal even primitive peoples reflected on this query. Each one has the capacity to define his or her personal thinking about politics, economics and religion.

Comment by Joan Denoo on October 21, 2012 at 1:53pm This little snatch of history from Wikipedia on Romney reveals how volatile USA laissez-faire capitalism is.
"The Depression of 1920–21brought a collapse in prices and local building was abandoned.[26] His family returned to Salt Lake City in 1921, and while his father resumed construction, George became skilled at lath-and-plaster work.[28][29] The family was again prospering when the Great Depression hit in 1929 and ruined them.[20] George watched his parents fail financially in Idaho and Utah[30] and having to take a dozen years to pay off their debts.[31] Seeing their struggles influenced his life and business career.[29]"

Don't be put-off by religious references, the point of his material is how to be prepared for disaster, natural or man-made.

Comment by Joan Denoo on October 22, 2012 at 10:37am There are those who would have atheist remain silently polite, not question assumptions, don't impose our thoughts on their beliefs. Well, when has silence ever achieved any goal? If you know dirty hands spreads disease, you speak up. If you know eating rotten food can make one sick, you say something. If you know too much candy is bad for a developing child, you take action. If you know someone uses violence to gain control of family members, you take a stand.
Some don't like Christopher Hitchens, Sam Harris, Daniel Dennett, Richard Dawkins, or AronRa, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Dan Barker, Annie Laurie Gaylor, Emma Goldman, Che Guevara, Lawrence Krauss, Paul Kurtz, Hemant Mehta, PZ Myers, Michael Newdow, Madalyn Murray O’Hair, James Randi, Julian Assange, Margaret Sanger, David Suzuki, or Steve Weinberg, just don't listen or read their materials. You have every right to not agree with them and you do not have the right to silence them.

Comment by Joan Denoo on October 22, 2012 at 2:47pm Have you hear these statements in polite society?
"146,000 Christians a year are martyred worldwide." I have heard this several times.
Paul Rosenberg stated "the real figure is almost certainly less than five a year (possibly even zero) - which would yield what I dubbed a "conservative victimology ratio" of 28,600 to one."
"voter fraud cases are rampant!"? I heard this, many times and watch the efforts to prevent voter fraud.
Paul Rosenberg stated "similarly scarce, but conservatives imagine they number into the millions - and voter suppression in various forms actually does keep millions from voting. Using a variety of different approaches and examples, I came up with victimology ratios ranging from 30.4 million to one down to 22,010 to one."

Mr President, remember the dream of Martin Luther King, Jr? Remember his boldness and power, and magic? USA needs that kind of leadership again!

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…

This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.
I work in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors who admit patients are general MDs. (Psychiatrists see patients after admission) Yesterday evening we received several calls from irate parents. A new doctor who was doing admissions yesterday actually…

What do you think of this,
Nathan Young,
No Jason Torpy it is you that should be banned for promoting atheism, a belief that has no foundation in reality and zero proof behind it. The letter was a mockery of your atheist beliefs. I request to the board here that they remove Jason for his unverifiable beliefs in atheism for which he has no proof other than his arrogance. The letter was a mockery of atheism. Atheism is stupid and it should be mocked and it…

What do you think of this Facebook comment?
Nathan Young to Jason Torpy,
for once you and I can agree on something. We should disrespect beliefs that are untenable such as the belief that there is no God. Indeed for me to respect you Jason, I cannot respect your belief in non-belief in atheism. Your atheism comes across as arrogrance, smugness, and self righteous. Indeed after reading "An Open Letter to My Religious Friends" I penned one…
