We continue to hear people say that USA is the "best" country to live in and that we provide opportunity for all without consideration for race, sex, sexual orientation or religion.

That is simply not the case. A very quick look for data reveals the delusion. Not all children have access to nutritious food, clean water, good education, basic health care, and decent living conditions. It is not the government's responsibility to take care of every one, but as long as we live during a time when machines have taken over much of the labor previously done by humans, and jobs have been sent to developing countries because of cheaper labor costs, there simply are not enough jobs to go around. This problem has no simple answer, but to delude ourselves about USA being a land of opportunity just does not hold up to scrutiny.

To think that I grew up with the notion that in America everything was much better than here - perhaps it was true in the sixties. But things are getting worse here...

We need to realize that the entire Earth is suffering under the boot of USA capitalism and that every place our influence is felt, there is a widening gap between rich and poor. This started happening in 1975 and continues to get worse.

WWII changed so many things and one change was to increase protection of people who work for wages in USA. We didn't have the war damage that Europe experienced, there was great pent up demand for goods and services after the war, both domestically and internationally, and USA was able to supply goods in our war factories converted to production of goods. Labor unions protected health and safety of workers and caused increase in wages and benefits. Breakdown of unions began and and it has been downhill for wage workers ever since.

Our current political dispute does not appear to include wage worker protection. Both Dem's and Rep's are on the same side, leaving workers out.

I expect fascist leadership will come out of the next election. So, my plan is to hunker down and ride out the political and economic chaos until wiser and smarter heads prevail.
