The vast majority of so-called donee states (states that get more from the federal government than they contribute) are in the South. The vast majority of so-called donor states (those who receive less in government funds than their citizens contribute) are blue states. Amazingly, it is, largely, the citizens of the red states—who rely on tax dollars the most—that constantly want lower taxes. It makes me want to scream when people who are so dependent on the government demand that the government be cut. One way we could save a tremendous amount of money would be if the Southern states were more self-sufficient.
