Steph and Chris, I like the way Sam Harris frames the issue. Especially when he points out the outrageous fights going on about homosexuality, and I would add women's right to control their own bodies, individuals right to control death with dignity ... all wedge issues that have no place in government. It is almost like giving elected officials the right to make decisions based on their beliefs, rather than on the knowledge that comes through science. Politicians aren't scientists or doctors or particularly trained in anything but getting a majority of people to vote for them. Bummer!
