Henry A. Wallace, V.P. under President F.D. Roosevelt. had the support of labor in the Democratic Party, and blacks, civil rights, and women’s rights. Wallace was a key figure in represented the best promise of the Democratic Party. Undone by his own party, he foretold what happened to Eugene McCarthy a generation later. The Democratic Party represents the interests of the American elite.

Wallace had a lot of enemies: Wall Street hated him because of his commitment in working people, the British and French hated him, because he wrote books and pamphlets attacking British and French colonialism.
