"Some politicians believe that less regulation, spending and taxes will help the economy -- this belief comes from a longstanding blind faith in the so-called "free market."

Doesn't that sound a little bit like "Let go, let god" or "Let the freemarket rule", or "Let's get rid of goverment"?

Imagine a two-legged stool, one leg is owner of capital, another is government. What happens if the owners of capital gets out of balance with government?

Let's imagine a three-legged stool, one is owners of capital, another is government, the third is owners of labor.

What happens if owners of capital gains an advantage and gets out of balance with the other two legs?

What happens if owners of labor gains an advantage and gets out of balance with the other two legs?

What happens if government gains an advantage and gets out of balance with the other two legs?

Sweden has a three-legged type of government. Costs of health care, education, child care and elder care are decided by the three segments represented by the three-legged stool.

Hi Joan,

The conservatives that ramble on about Capitalism and free markets really make me mad. They are the same people who constantly support huge government subsidies to oil companies and large agricultural businesses. No nation could ever be successful if it were a pure Capitalistic society. Our society will always be a mixture of Capitalism and government. When right-wing politicians blather on about free markets it’s another simplistic mantra chanted to lead the uninformed masses to believe that America is something it isn’t. Business knows it can’t survive without government assistance it just likes to pretend it’s more capable than it really is.

Jonathan, you stated it perfectly.

Couldn't agree more Jonathan, anyone in the US who believes Socialism is the big evil really needs to take another look at the hard facts, under Dubya, government became bigger than ever, much bigger than any administration before it.

An example of Socialism in action is Medicare, the Right like to think everything is better under private control, without the taxpayer subsidies and favorable treatment by the States most of them wouldn't even survive.

Hello fellow atheists!  I have joined this site in an attempt to find other rational individuals, such as myself, and to promote a current charity drive that I am trying to get going for the Oklahoma tornado victims.  I have managed to get many groups from around my area, including the Beyond Belief Foundation to back me on this endeavor.

I am located in Newnan, Ga and have my own atheist group entitled "Coweta County Atheists".  I am currently being backed by Spaulding Co.…

Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film video

There is a video of the Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film.  The man isn't demon possessed, there are likely no 'real' demons.  He's just delusional and doesn't want to accept personal responsiblity for his own behavior for his own dysfunctional life.

Do you support 'traditional' marriage, vot now ad

There is an ad that reads ' Do you support 'traditional' marriage? Vote Now"!  .

No, I don't support 'traditional' marriage because there is no such thing. I support heterosexual and same-sex couples marry each other legally , yes.  'Traditional' marriage promoters largely do not believe that heterosexual women are co-equal to their husbands.  Their only purpose in 'traditional' marriage is to sexually satisfy their husbands if they can and raise children and do all…

i've got no problem with everyone saying "merry christmas" on christmas day.  however, they've turned it into an entire holiday season where it lasts a month or more.  in those situations it should be perfectly acceptable to say "happy holidays" or call it a…
