Hi everybody! I am a regular reader of Pharyngula (no account, though, so cannot post comments there...)

I have a request: I cannot access the Pharyngula random quote file due to unknown reasons. It's always a great pool for great and no-so-great quotes. Can anyone send a copy of all the quotes to me?

Thanks in advance!

So the men in frocks are offended by the funny foreign office memo here in the UK? Even criticising them is not allowed apparently, but their views need attacking because they cause such practical misery in the world. If they want to talk about being offensive, let's talk about a belief that tells a rape victim it's wrong to take the morning after pill or that it's better for a woman living in poverty
to have six kids rather than usecontraception (not to mention the impact on HIV etc). If I'm not careful they're going to get me started...

An atheist explains Libertarianism through song: A gently-mocking little ditty sung to a tune by Gilbert and Sullivan. (more here)

Sorry, that's "criticizing" him...

I always remember with great amusement a scene from a documentary where Haggard is being interviewed by Richard Dawkins and is criticism him for his arrogance, etc. A few years later Haggard's busted as a homosexual meth head. Very funny. Haggard and his idiot wife deserve each other.

PZ Myers offered the ne plus ultra comment on this story already but I just couldn't resist adding my two cents worth.

Gayle Haggard, wife of disgraced mega-church minister Ted Haggard, appeared on NBC's Today show Wednesday and told co-host Meredith Viera that her husband was "cured" of any homosexual tendencies. Gayle appeared on the show to promote her new book, "Why I Stayed: The Choices I Made In My Darkest Hour." (more here)

Anyone been following the news about Pastor Rick Warren lately? On Dec. 30th, he asked his Saddleback mega-church congregation to cough up $900,000 in donations before Jan 1, to make up an end of the year shortfall. Well, Saddleback Church has announced that the flock has come through! And instead of the $900,000 Rick Warren asked for, they delivered $2.4 million before the 48 hour deadline was up.

So what can you say about people like that? You can laugh or you can cry... or you can do what I did and make up a nursery rhyme about it:

Baa, baa, slack-jawed sheep
My coffers can you fill?
Yes sir, yes sir,
$2.4 M. in the till.
Some for the pastor,
Some to praise his name,
And some for the anti-gay
political campaign...

Feel free to pass this on. Maybe it will go viral.

Christmas 'Miracle' As Mother, Infant Resuscitated After Showing No Signs Of Life During Labor
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/12/29/christmas-miracle-as-moth_n_406645.html

"Mike Hermanstorfer credits "the hand of God."

"We are both believers ... but this right here, even a nonbeliever – you explain to me how this happened. There is no other explanation," he said."

So, divine intervention saved his baby...thus, can we conclude that divine wrath killed the following?

L.A. museum being sued for not showing anti-evolution film.

On it's Vimeo page, the American Freedom Alliance bills itself as a non-political, non partisan, movement of concerned Americans which identifies threats to western civilization. Currently, one of the threats to western civilization they are most concerned with is the cancellation of a screening of Darwin's Dilemma, an anti-evolution documentary, by Los Angeles's California Science Center.

So they're alleging that their freedom of speech was denied due to pressure from the Smithsonian Institute and the scientific community... And they're suing.

More here.

You really should check out their page on Vimeo. These guys remind me so much of the John Birch Society that I was surprised they haven't also come out against the fluoridation of water and Communism in the State Department!

From the article Tommy cited. "However, religious commentators have criticized Hawking's theorizing, saying he can never hope to explain what is essentially unexplainable." Well doesn't that kind of invalidate their own "god" theory then? ;p

Anybody else read it? I love the basic premise, and being an atheist means I can appreciate the mythology and not get bent out of shape about the multiple deities.

Wyoming is better than the southeast, from what I've seen. It's still a solid red state, though. My big point was that there are no cities. The closest it has are Cheyenne and Casper, each of which are around 50,000 people. The entire state barely…
