I used to be harder on Christianity and more forgiving of people from other religions. But then I realized they are usually just as crazy, if not more so, than Christendom. Or is that Christendumb?...

There may be individual believers or congregations/temples/etc. who are less crazy than others, but once you scratch beneath the surface the roots for fanaticism are there.

I see all religions in the same light. They are either nutters, or just nutters waiting to go off in some form shape or way.

"It's their culture?!?" It's their culture to treat all non-muslims as infidels, to tolerate radicalism and basically turn their heads when jihadists go apeshit not just on infidels but their own kind?

Charming....

The worst thing is that there are quite a few atheists who bash Christianity 24/7, yet think criticizing Islam is racist, and do mental gymnastics to defend Muslims and find a way to blame the West. "It's their culture, it's none of our business" ? Tell that to the girl who got flogged for getting pregnant by rape. I'm sure she'll understand.

I think that the use of the term "racist" to criticize critics of a religious ideology is a bit sloppy, and is related primarily to British culture/sociology. Religion is not a race (though even "race" itself is mostly an artificially constructed identity); religion is a set of beliefs and practices.

Here's a question: when Arab Christians (and there are millions of them) criticize Islam, are they racist? Knee-jerk PC preenings from our British friends just disgust me. The issue is not what some critic of Islam is or might be, but whether the criticism itself is factually grounded, logically sound and consistent with practical human experience.

Godless and Free
by Pat Condell

For too long religion has enjoyed the benefit of the doubt, taking all the benefit and allowing none of the doubt.

With the rise of Islam and political correctness, the threat it now poses to our basic freedoms is beyond a joke.

Award-winning comedian Pat Condell gets serious and gives religion the kicking it deserves in his popular and controversial video monologues, sixty of which are collected here for the first time, including Welcome to Saudi Britain, Free Speech Is Sacred and Wake Up, America.

Yeah, I've been called racist, and also atheist extremist. For fuck's sake, I'm married to a Catholic from India. Most of what is called "Islamophobia" is just educated dislike. It's just a way to shut people up, the same with calling someone racist for criticizing something that is a set of ideas and most definitely not a race.

Right on, Pat!
It seems a lot of people must agree with Pat Condell. I am very afraid about these issues, but it seems I have to toe the line about with whom/how I can discuss them, since people seem to react strongly to my "Islamophobia." I love it when people call me "racist" for this. I don't know where to begin saying what's incorrect about that!

I have the DVD called Pat Condell Anthology. It's a lot of great watching and I highly recommend it. One can order it from http://store.richarddawkins.net/products/pat-condell-anthology

Pat Condell rose to internet stardom in 2007 with a series of topical rants, posted to popular video-sharing websites. With topics usually centering on religion, politics, and current events, each of Pat’s videos quickly caused a stir and racked up tens of thousands of views.

RichardDawkins.net has now compiled the first 35 of Pat Condell’s videos onto this DVD collection, with an exclusive introduction by Pat. Enjoy this newly remastered collection, totalling 3 hours of video.

“Pat Condell is unique. Nobody can match his extraordinary blend of suavity and savagery. With his articulate intelligence he runs rings around the religious wingnuts that are the targets of his merciless humour. Thank goodness he is on our side.” – Richard Dawkins

“Brash. Uncompromising. Brilliant. Hilarious. Pat Condell has found a simple formula for success: stating the obvious without restraining himself with the conventions of unwarranted piety. Pat flenses sacred cows, and after slicing away the fat and gristle of tired apologetics and mindless tradition, he exposes the hollow carcass of a culture’s hypocrisy…and we laugh.” – PZ Myers, ScienceBlogs.com/Pharyngula
