Welcome to Parenting Little Heathens

Hi moms and dads. Welcome to the parenting without religion group here at A|N. Please feel free to post an introduction, tell us about yourself or if you'd rather not, just jump right into any discussion.

Before you get started I would like you to be familiar with our Posting Rules and Guidelines. This will help clarify what this group is and what topics are appropriate or inappropriate.

Also, you might be interested in our list of atheist related parenting resources list. This is a work in progress, if you've found something you think is a good fit please post a reply and I'll see about adding it.

If at any time you would like to contact me, the easiest way is to send a private message through my page. However, in order to send any member a PM you must first be their friend.

Thank you for joining the group, I hope you enjoy being here.

For moms only is my DW's Yahoo! group, AtheistMoms. It's been around since 2000 and is fairly active. I don't read it, too much mom stuff for me to deal with.

I thought you all would enjoy this blog post: http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/badastronomy/2008/10/12/skeptical-parenting/ Dr Plait lists a couple more skeptic parenting sites in that blog that you all may find useful.

Thank you, Dawn K! I've taught him to read (by age 3!) and he's really interested in books. We check out books at the library a lot, about sharks, octopuses, orangutans, one animal at a time, you know? :)

Come join my new group on Cafe Mom! I'm going to be ripping off a lot of stuff from here, my appologies in advance...

We need all the support we can get, plus CafeMom is a really fun place to meet other moms. Here's the link:

Hey Jayjay, At your sons age I think exposure to and myth picture books are great. If he's showing interest in planets or dinosaurs yet don't be afraid to start right in on some non-fiction/science books.

I believe on Amazon there are a couple of book lists put together for secular families although they are more for older kids. I'll try to find them and post links.
