Welcome to Parenting Little Heathens

Hi moms and dads. Welcome to the parenting without religion group here at A|N. Please feel free to post an introduction, tell us about yourself or if you'd rather not, just jump right into any discussion.

Before you get started I would like you to be familiar with our Posting Rules and Guidelines. This will help clarify what this group is and what topics are appropriate or inappropriate.

Also, you might be interested in our list of atheist related parenting resources list. This is a work in progress, if you've found something you think is a good fit please post a reply and I'll see about adding it.

If at any time you would like to contact me, the easiest way is to send a private message through my page. However, in order to send any member a PM you must first be their friend.

Thank you for joining the group, I hope you enjoy being here.

I enjoyed this post about dealing with a religious neighbour offering to take an atheist's child to church.

It may be alright, but I just don't see how they can get a movie from a book that has about 11 sentences in it. I hope that it is great, but sometimes I feel like my childhood favorites are getting ruined one movie at a time.

My husband and I managed to get out and see Harry Potter last week with the trailer for this movie. I'm really curious to hear more about it. My sons loves the book, I expect the movie will be great but I also expect it to be too scary for even my oldest. :(

I wanted to draw your attention to this important petition that I created today:

"Stop forcing faith on hapless children"

http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/stop_forcing_faith?e

I'd like to encourage you to add your signature, too. It's free and takes less than a minute of your time. Tell you what -- get 100,000 signatures on this petition and I will hand deliver a copy to the Pope. What a publicity coup that would be!

Early results are encouraging. A lot of people are signing this petition. If you sign, don't forget to forward the information to your friends and encourage them to sign also.

Thanks!

Sydni, I'm so glad you posted the video of, The Man Who Planted Trees. I haven't seen this favorite true story in twenty years. Wow. Have to get my kids to watch it with me.

And I also enjoyed the Wedding Dance video. What a delight. Thanks

Quiet weekend here! I hope everyone is out doing something fun. It's currently raining to beat the band here and we're all a bit stir crazy.

Thanks Teacherninja for the clarification.

I googled Bessie Stanley and ran across this which made me chuckle.

For any parents that live in South Florida, The Florida Atheists and Secular Humanists are having their first parents' meetup on Sunday morning (most of you are free, aren't you?), July 12th at ArtPark in Hollywood, FL. Please go to http://www.meetup.com/FLASHParents/ and RSVP if you will be in the area. The kids will play at the park while the parents hang out (with one eye on our little infidels of course). If your kids still like to play at the park, this is perfect. If your kids are older, they can hang with the parents (every teenager's dream!). Thanks.
