Someone painted their car with chalkboard paint so kids can draw on it! Across the top it says "It's ok to draw on car."

The video below I made when my 11 year old boy and I were talking about academic honesty.

JS, I agree, there are materials developed for Sunday School and home schooling that is religion based and not something that I want to teach my great-grandchildren. Here is some basic information:

Science skills for kids: 5-6

A five-year old is able to understand patterns of life, i.e. seasons of planting, growing, harvesting, preserving foods for winter.  Growing a garden is the obvious practical project.
Or, learning patterns of stars by seasons. There are times to see different stars and constellations. Good sources include:

National Geographic Kids First Big Book of Space (First Big Books) ...

Color patterns intrigue small children. You might try:

ABCya.c=h

There should be more, and I will look tomorrow.

Anybody know of a good, concise video series (youtube, netflix or otherwise) that explains cosmology/origin of the universe/planets well for a 5 year old?

The factual stuff is a bit too advanced and all of the kids stuff I seem to find are just thinly veiled creationist piles of cow dung.

thanks!

J

Amelia at HuffPost: "10 ways to support your gay kid, whether you know you have one or not" (or even if it turns out you don't: "And if your kid is straight, you've taught them great lessons about equality. There's no harm. After all, our kids our going to be who they are. Nothing you do or say can change that. But as parents, we can affect the way our children see themselves. I want my kids to know they are amazing.")
