I agree with John D. A simple answer will encourage and reward curiosity. Another great response is "What do YOU think the answer is?"
Aaron - keep the answers short and age appropriate. It is actually surprisingly simple. The answer to this question might just be "Son... babies grow inside mommies bellies."
My 3.5 year old son is getting too clever for his own good. He's been at home with my wife for the last two weeks- she's on maternity leave, his preschool is closed for the university's winter break. He asked how I was able to put his baby brother into her belly. "How did he reach all the way up there?" Yesterday at the baby's two month check-up, he asked again- first time I've had to play the "I'll explain it later" card. So it begins...

Hi all! I am new to AN,so far I am enjoying the page. My hubby and I have three boys eight, three and one :) The area we live in is very religious,it's nice to come to a place (even if that place is online) and feel welcome. I'm looking foreword to getting to know other parents.
When my kids would ask if they would die I would say. "Yes... everybody dies... but you will not die for a long time." It actually seemed to work fine.
My 5 year old yells out - mum I know where my shoes are, but I just haven't found them yet - he is very creative about aiming to avoid being told off..... :)
