Comment by Elizabeth (Liza) Bezuidenhout on November 21, 2011 at 1:55pm Hello!
I am gradually coming out with my Atheism. I have told only a few people. I told a friend that I knew was an Atheist, I haven't heard back from her. I told my sister the other day she has not gotten back to me yet. My brother has disowned me way back in 2009 so no need to tell him. As far as my family (brother's family and my sister's family) I don't exist anymore. So I am sure they have completely written me off by now. I really don't care. I am happy with my choice of becoming an Atheist. I feel free from all the lies and the stress. I sit back and think about my past and at one time I was a very strong Christian too. Went to church, taught preschool church, bible studies (which were nothing but gossiping ladies), conferences (Women Of Faith), bought tons of books, bibles, music CD's, videos, family first movies, etc... I tried for years to get my X husband to come to church with me he wouldn't (only because he was brought up in a strict church and hated any kind of church). I tried to get my kids involved (my daughter did try) I took grand kids to church with me (then their parents said no more). My middle son actually has a deep fear of churches or any thing like a church even funeral homes. My oldest son has never attended church and to this day he still doesn't. My daughter on the other hand has tried over the years to get involved. I have to make a decision real soon and tell her that I am an Atheist now. She has a boyfriend that has gone through some kind of counseling and he thinks if he goes to church now everything will be alright. So my daughter and her kids and him went to church once or twice now and enjoyed it. It is going to be hard to tell them but I am hoping she won't feel she has to go now because she still thinks mom is still a Christian and this would make me happy.
I also feel that to really understand what Atheism is you need to be a Christian first so you have a good reason to become an atheist. Do you understand what I am saying? It's like if you were born to parents that were not believers and you grew up that way too you really don't know what you are being an Atheist for. I know what a Christian believes in and how they get brainwashed into believing all kinds of lies. So I have a good reason to be Atheist now. It's very complicated. But on the other hand if your parents did research on the subject of religion and then based their decision to become Atheists then passed that down to their children that I can see. :) the more I read which I am writing the more dumb it sounds. I better quit now. lol.
I am so glad my husband that I have now is an Atheist too.
I am so glad there are groups out there like this that I can belong to too. :-)

I've been out for about 10 years but not fully out and overt but for the last two months. Even those who know me, know my views and even agree are somewhat confounded and disconcerted at my open advocacy.

Comment by Bryanderthal on March 8, 2011 at 2:13pm Welcome to not believing in a god or gods. ;)
Now you must decide from here; are you going to be an "angry" atheist or a non-confrontational, tolerant, and "coexisty" atheist?
