@Natalie We need to find a model for our public school system that will maximize the education of ALL people. That will not discriminate against the poor. We need to teach our children how to think for themselves so that they can steel themselves from bogus claims. Why wait till college. In reading many atheists' stories I noticed that they understood the fallacy of religion at an early age. Just think how many more atheists there will be if we teach our children early on?

@Ezra David Rose

I agree with you. But it couldn't happen soon enough for me. Just think what theists are fighting against. 1) Education of the masses. 2) Fair chance at a good life. 3) True happiness unfeathered by guilt. 4) Self respect 5) Freedom 6) No more wars based on religion - isn't that most of the wars today - and if the masses are educated, would there be any other kinds of war?

If all this sounds unreachable, think again. The organized atheist can bring it about. Change public education and the political climate, and that will reach a new generation which the impossible may be possible.

Thanks for the screen capture info.

By the way, I'm ndrthrdr1 on YouTube (Under The Radar 1).  Was I a little harsh in my comment, shown in the screen capture posted by DoctorOfDisbelief?

The problem with Kerry is the influence he wields, even if he doesn't actually vote anti-choice, he might swing others into taking that step.

@Fil.  It happens a lot.    Take John Kerry.  He thinks abortion is wrong, but, would not try to make it illegal because it is not for him to decide what other people think about abortion.

@ LittleJohn Dellar

  Well yes, a fanatic fundie will always take religion over reality. "When one person suffers from a mental illness It's called insanity, when a million people suffer from a mental illness it's called religion." However I do believe that there are more moderate believers than out there, than there are the bat-shitters who will take religion over freedom. They are the ones that I have hope for, and the ones to which I was referring. I was a church boy once. And it's because I came to know the bible so well, and recognized the institutional hypocrisy and corruption, that I turned away from believing in impossible nonsense for no good reason.

Ezra, you put my thoughts in a nutshell. I couldn't care less about a legislator's personal religious views, if he is a good legislator and works for the good of ALL. The concept of separation of church and state is the US's gift to the world, and now we're losing that gift ourselves. The reason that free public education was started was in order to create intelligent voters who could think through political issues, but the Republicans and Fundies are trying to destroy that very system. Depressing, isn't it?
