Yeah, I've heard about Finkelstein's work on the subject, previously.  I just haven't read any of the actual books.  I'll have to look that one up.

Well yeah, he was kind of a nut in other areas, too, such as with alchemy.  Brilliant in mathematics and physics, but a bit off in others.  Even the best minds have their strengths and weaknesses.

Although Newton was a great man let's not be too quick to idolize him. Per Wikipedia:

Newton saw a monotheistic God as the masterful creator whose existence could not be denied in the face of the grandeur of all creation.[

Yes, Isaac Newton was born on 25 December, but there is only a 1 in 365 chance that Christ was.
