We debate origins of the Universe, life, Earth, humans, religion, atheism, using common sense, evolution, cosmology, geology, archaeology, and other sciences, to repel biblical creationism and other religious beliefs.

Comment by Samantha Thomas on December 17, 2011 at 8:25pm Most people don't realize that Sponge Bob's home, Bikini Bottom, is based on the Bikini Atoll where the Hydrogen bombs were tested. The radiation that's left over accounts for the marine creatures in the cartoon being... ummmm... strange.
How did we get on this from the Dimetrodon???
Comment by Marc Draco on December 16, 2011 at 3:44pm Hey Chris, you know that Spongebob is based (loosely) on marine life. Hillenburg was some kind of marine biologist before he broke into toons.
Comment by Chris Dodds on December 14, 2011 at 9:59pm Did you guys hear about the discovery of those carnivorous sponges? That's one episode of Spongebob I gotta see :P
Comment by Samantha Thomas on December 3, 2011 at 4:42pm Pelycosaurs, like Dimetrodon, were prehistoric reptiles of the mid-Permian, about 280 - 260 million years ago. Evolution took the Therapsid Pelycosaurs in a mammalian track, rather than bird or lizard. Nevertheless, they looked really cool and generally fit the commonly understood category "Dinosaur." Paleontologists and Evolutionary Biologists may disagree with the common understanding, but that's OK. My universe still has space for a Brontosaurus, even though such a critter never really existed... and the PLANET Pluto, for that matter.

Comment by Chris Dodds on December 3, 2011 at 3:32pm I've got a question that has nothing to do with religion and more to do with biology and the common person's lack of education in the subject. Why is it that Dimetrodon is commonly associated with dinosaurs? They weren't related.

Comment by Marc Draco on November 21, 2011 at 11:35am Or, put another way, a shark is a fish whereas the cetaceans are mammals.
We have to be careful not to excuse cruelty because of this lest we make ourselves vulnerable to it. A great white shark is still a great white shark not a dolphin.
