Thank you Patricia. I just took a look. It's very good, so why not offer it as a news/discussion item for the group? Terry

Joan, thanks for your comment.  There is a "church" in Chattanooga, TN for atheists and agnostics. Also, the Unitarian Universalist Church offers a funeral service for humanists.

Edwin, my family does not have funeral services because we are so appalled by religious mumbo jumbo. I had both my mother's and father's celebration of life in my home and people told stories about them and remembered their experiences with them. We had a huge feast at each one because food was such an important part of our family life. My father was a contractor and many people who dad built houses or businesses for came and told of their experiences of him. His carpenters told stories such as his blunt pencils he kept in his pocket, and how he always had a case of Pepsi on his truck. Family shared stories of his growing up.

At mom's memorial, many of her co-workers in the health delivery system recalled her and some former patients reminded us of how thorough she was.

We have had other family members, neighbor and friends memorial services in my garden and the same themes emerged. Authentic human stories about real persons with all the praise and reflection of loved ones.

I know you will find a meaningful way to celebrate your life and the contributions you made to others' lives.

Hello Edwin: I don't know about performing "funeral services"but I know how mine will be run because I have been preparing for it in recent years. I expect to die from cancer between 5 and 8 years from now (unless new drugs are found). I'll be writing about this another day when I have the time. I have writing and lecture deadlines to meet at the moment.

Thanks for the approval.  Does anyone in the group perform funeral services?  My wife and I are new to Cleveland, TN.  We retired to Milton, FL but we got tired of the hurricanes.  The cost of living is a lot less in Tennessee.  Tennessee is a beautiful place to live.  I am glad that I found your group.

Just to say that on 5 February 2014 numbers in the "Origins" Group (initiated in September 2008) reached 4000.

Thank you everyone, and welcome again to all. Terry
