ORIGINS: UNIVERSE, LIFE, HUMANKIND, AND DARWIN

We debate origins of the Universe, life, Earth, humans, religion, atheism, using common sense, evolution, cosmology, geology, archaeology, and other sciences, to repel biblical creationism and other religious beliefs.

Rick, that is indeed what some scientists are suggesting.

I proposed the term infiniverse some years ago to meet this possibility. Once the concept of multiverse has been raised, I hardly see why the number of universes needs to be finite. It might just as well be infinite.

ًwhat if there were multiverse and our universe is a baby universe and there were infinite numbers of universes of different dimensions  and ages, then "at the beginning" have no meaning..

God never said "Let there be light'.

He might have said, “div D = ρ, div B = 0, curl E = - ðB/ðt, curl H = J + ðD/ðt,”

and there was light.

See more in the A/N group Physicists.

The Bronze Age goat herders of the Middle East desert margins were not up to this when inventing their fictions.

If God did say let there be light he works really slow. When the universe had aged to 380,000 years, it had cooled to approximately 3000 K (5000 °F). Electrons no longer had enough energy to overcome the attractive force of atomic nuclei, and became bound to atoms. Light could now stream forth unimpeded. This process is called "recombination," and this "first light" is what we now see as Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation. Before 380,000 years photons could not move freely. Kind of like it is in the core of stars where it takes a millions of years for a photon to travel through to space. so day one to God is 380,000 years?

Yup, that's one of the things that you pick up from dealing with creationists a lot.  They abuse the hell out of the language and deliberately misrepresent things.  The best way to combat that is to be very precise with your own verbiage.  It's a habit you develop, after a while.

Yeah, I vaguely remember that story.  Fun stuff.

I had to go to worse places, with that job.  There was one lady who was just up on the other side of the Appalachian Trail.  I was up in snake-handler territory on that run, literally.

It's amazing how far some people were willing to drive to work in the Winston-Salem office, and when they were looking for people to work from home, so they could close some of the offices, the people out in the middle of freaking nowhere were always the first to volunteer.

Oh, and welcome, neighbor.  I've been to King a few times.  We had a few work-from-home employees in King, when I was a field technician for Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Is Evolution a fact or just a theory?

Both.  Biological evolution is an observed fact.  The theory of Natural Selection (as opposed to Lamarck's (falsified) hypothesis of Acquired Characteristics) explains how biological evolution happens.  Punctuated Equilibrium is a reformulation of the previous gradualistic model of Natural Selection.  It's still Natural Selection, just a slightly different model.

Also, you should really lose the JUST a theory phrasing.  That's the sort of thing that creationists say.

A theory is more powerful than a mere fact.  Theories explain facts.  Theories are supported by many facts.  A theory is pretty much the ultimate aspiration for an idea, in science.
