Charles, i have a brain - i'm quite certain of it.  and yet i don't think less of Donny or anyone else who are ambivolent or supportive of the legalization of marijuana.  how is this an Atheist issue?

frankly, i think less of YOU for your absolutism.  comments such as yours really have no place in this or any other AN forum.  seriously, you call Donnie a coward b/c he is not an activist.  perhaps he has a wife and kids, a busy job, family obligations, etc. and doesn't have time.  how can you make these claims without knowing him as a person.  yet you call him your 'friend'.  he says he drinks Scotch, so you call him an alcoholic.  you have a very strange mind, my 'friend'.

Charles,

I’m not sure what to make out of your missive.  I can sympathize with the fact you were a Methodist as I was a member of both the Disciples of Christ church and the Vineyard Christian Fellowship. I have no desire to be  and activist but to each their own.

I don’t understand what you could not know about religious extremist in reference to the 9/11 crap. Religion demands that you must kill and die for your beliefs.

As for the Bible, it was written by a bunch of goat herders with patriarchal and genocidal attitudes.

I am not a theist but do believe that life is more than a grouping of chemical reactions. We do have a cognitive nature so why not use it.

People are atheist for many reasons, I’m sure that the reasons change as folks grow and mature.  I don’t care about the legalization of pot. It’s not a hard drug and is most likely better for people than the scotch, which I love. Having said that, to make it a litmus test of one’s atheism seems a little extreme

I don’t believe the “we atheist” need to take any part of the Bible or Koran to justify our morality. We should be able to use our common sense to do that. A rule that I have always though fair is “ A persons morality can be judged by how they act when nobody is watching”.

As for the existence of god, I grow tired of that debate. There is none.

All in all I hope you do well, don’t get trapped in fights with family members. That tends to make life miserable.

Peace.

And who is Matt Hammel?  I watch the Atheist Experience and have never seen anyone by that name.
