I agree Fil,

I would add that we should also teach critical thinking as early as possible  for our children. Education reform is important as a first step in getting rid of religion. Science should be glorified (for want of a better word). 

As for politics, I think it will be a struggle to change since we are a type of animal that is territorial, one that needs to be led. Our current social politics are not in step with our scientific knowledge. That is due to the enormous influence religion has on our politics.

So, education reform will allow science to become dominant, and when science becomes dominant, our politics will fall into place as well.

I am afraid that you are right: there is probably no easy way of getting rid of religion. I try to do my best "locally", but globally is much harder.

I feel that I have unintentionally changed the direction these comments were taking. What do you think of my opinion that we have no easy way of getting rid of religion? Do you have any ideas of your own?

Well, but one year later he says:

(about the soul):

"I don't have any evidence on that," answers Gates. "I don't have any evidence of that."

and: "Just in terms of allocation of time resources, religion is not very efficient. There's a lot more I could be doing on a Sunday morning."

But - he would probably not want to fight religions actively (judging by the quotation by George).

Gates: I'm not somebody who goes to church on a regular basis. The specific elements of Christianity are not something I'm a huge believer in. There's a lot of merit in the moral aspects of religion. I think it can have a very very positive impact.

I wholeheartedly agree with Fil when he says that religion needs to be gotten rid of. But I do not see anyone with money funding studies that would prove that religion is false. The complex society we live in would rebel and cause a war. We could ask Bill Gates to fund it, but if he did, he would lose his billions if not his life. I strongly feel and know that religion must go out to the trash heap, but since religion deals with the feelings of people, it will not be an easy task. If you feel you are right and do not accept any form of reason to change your feeling, then won't you defend your feeling with all you got?
