Texas Creationism: More about Bill Zedler

"Texas Creationism: New Bill for 2013, describing his new bill, HB 285, which provides:
"An institution of higher education may not discriminate against or penalize in any manner, especially with regard to employment or academic support, a faculty member or student based on the faculty member’s or student’s conduct of research relating to the theory of intelligent design or other alternate theories of the origination and development of organisms."
~ Bill Zedler

Moran "called the bill a “silly joke” and said firing a biology professor who believes in creationism is not discrimination based on religion, but discrimination based on fact and “stupidity.”

That's a quote I'm going to remember:  ".... firing a biology professor who believes in creationism is not discrimination based on religion, but discrimination based on fact and “stupidity.”

While we're at it, let's find an astronomer who follows Sidney Omarr every day!

Heh!

It's too bad that in this case, the superstition (rather than the science) misleadingly got the name with -[o]logy "discourse, study".

Who is Sidney Omarr? Oh! an astrologer? "an American astrologer and an astrology consultant to the rich and famous." Wikipedia
I am inclined to give you a tongue lashing; however, I will laugh instead ... that is more fun!

Yoo-hoo, Joan!!!  :-P~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ [grin!]

I hope it doesn't pass - those Creationist keep trying with their agenda.
Horray for Moran! What an intelligent statement.

It's just a matter of time.  Everyone focuses on the Darwin/Intelligent Design argument as if that's the only issue and if we win on that one then we win the war.

OK, I've said this before and I'll say it again:

About ten years ago the public library system had a change in their governing board.  From that point on the number or Chirstian/Historical Revisionism books skyrocked.  Last time I did a search on atheism I got less than fifty hits for the whole county.  I do a search on any Christian term and I get from between 1 and 2 thousand hits.  I wrote them a letter accusing them of using public money to promote religious ideas.  I got a response saying "We're just trying to meet the needs of the public."

Hell, yeah.  I'll believe that when they have a pornography section for me and my buddies!

The point being what they were buying and stocking the shelves with was pornography....the porno of the mind...the re-writing of history to fit their myth...

The bond between the public library and the city was always tenuous.  Most frequently, the public library was the entity that brought new ideas into a town long before any other sort of media could reach them.

I only knew one place while I was growing up...one place where I was secure and happy.  That was the library.

Now I see them selling out.

I keep going back, suggesting books for new purchases.  And checking out movies and books.  Right now I have Oliver Sacks' book on, and called, "Hallucinations."  I go way back with hallucinations and I want to see if he soft pedals their danger and their untrustworthiness.

Thanks for the information on Public Libraries Phillip.  That's sad news.  I'm now thinking of seeing what proportion my local library has.

This is an old message, and I want to express my complete agreement with what you said.

Philip Jarrett, I just watched a film of Oliver Sacks about hallucinations on TED. Fascinating information, especially using fMRI to study brain function during hallucinating, especially in blend or visually impaired people.
