A new theory has emerged on how fish evolved limbs
I don't want to say it's new, because I saw a similar theory in action on "Miracle Planet".

Gregory Retallack's proposal seems good, based on analysing fossilised buried soils: "Judging from where their fossils were found, transitional forms between fish and amphibians lived in wooded floodplains. Our distant ancestors were . . . opportunistic, taking advantage of floodplains and lakes choked with roots and logs for the first time in geological history."
