A new theory has emerged on how fish evolved limbs
I don't want to say it's new, because I saw a similar theory in action on "Miracle Planet".

Our distant ancestors were . . . opportunistic, taking advantage of floodplains and lakes choked with roots and logs for the first time in geological history."
