A Harvard professor has outlined what he thinks is a plausible way to clone a Neanderthal. He says an "extremely adventuresome female human" would be needed to carry the fetus. His ideas are being criticized from scientific and ethical perspectives.

Or, would he/she be a perpetual object of research.
I have mixed feelings about this.
On the one hand it would be a tremendous scientific breakthrough.
On the other hand I would be concerned about the treatment of the individual.
I know what you mean. I think he or she would have to be treated as a guest of our society if at all possible. I wouldn't want him or her to be treated as an animal.
Permalink Reply by G T Bud Martin on January 22, 2013 at 4:36pm Cut to the chase! Where are the Nazi doctors when you need them? Humans are just another species of animal. If cloning sheep is acceptable, why not homo sapiens?
Our biases border on the religious. How come the Eyzies-de-Tayac museum has its Neanderthals in skins? Even modern day kids are nude at the age portrayed.
Maybe the clonees would be perfectly happy in the Brave No World. One never knows unless One tries.
Permalink Reply by Joseph P on January 22, 2013 at 4:50pm I don't know about the "extremely adventuresome" part. Considering all of the furries wandering around, it shouldn't be that hard to find a volunteer. Compared to a fox-girl, cat-girl, or even weirder hybrid, a neanderthal would be almost normal.
Permalink Reply by John Hutcheson on February 2, 2013 at 7:43am Well it seems like the scientific process is working then.
Even if successful, deminsihed abstract thought, could make Nean's ability to function in modern society result in a pretty difficult experience for him.
