So, I'm on Facebook and I have my "religion" as "agnostic" knowning very well that I am an atheist. I did that because I have many fundamentalist relatives including my mother who would harrass me to no end. I already have to deal with some of my relatives' scorn for my sexual orientation. I'm thinking of changing it to "Naturalist" per Julia Sweeney's video, " Letting Go of God." Other than unfriending my entire family or placing "Atheist, " what do other's do? I'd be interested in opinions. Thanks.

Thanks! I kept searching before, but it didn't seem anything was around here. Cleveland's still a really long haul, but once I get employed, Akron would at least be within range.

Thanks again!

DemonHype - There is a very active CFI chapter in NE Ohio.
They have meetings in both the Cleveland and Akron areas.

I live in Dayton, work downtown Cincinnati, and my life partner lives in Columbus. Friday I'll be in Columbus and I've taken the day off work. Possibly, I may go downtown and attempt to talk to the evangelizing fundies. Possibly, it will involve a lot of quoting from Matthew (because you know, it's important that they know what the bible says since they believe it so literally). So, if you feel like a little advocacy and need something to do during lunch.. drop me a line.

You're welcome! I know how overwhelming that kind of crap can be, and then to be told by the unwitting "why are you so angry when someone is only wishing you well?" It's like when a friend's girlfriend cattily snubs you right in front of him and he doesn't even pick up on it and wonders what your problem is!

Like my dad always said, it's hard to fight "goodness". :)

I live pretty near Akron--in fact, I used to get piano lessons in Fairlawn every week--but it is still a long haul. But everything is a long haul from where I live in the boondocks. Every time I find a good job, my parents freak out because it's always a drive and they ask why I can't just settle for the McD around the corner!

DH-Thanks for the supportive words. I used to live Akron, Canton, Kent for 13 years. The drive would be long for you. Thanks for the consideration, though.

*GROAN* Of all the innuendos, I hate the "concern" crap the most! It is so insulting and passive aggressive--trying to doll up the same old attitude in nice-sounding language so that, to the passive observer, you look like some kind of jerk for taking exception to it and they look like a saint for bearing up!

It would be great to have a meet-up, but most of the atheists I've been seeing here are from Central and Southern Ohio and I'm NE Ohio. Not exactly within reasonable driving distance, but until I get employed any distance is too far anyway!

I'm not sure about the billboard issue, but I just joined and I am interested in communicating with those in Central Ohio. I don't know any athiests in the Columbus area and, frankly, I am tired of theist innuendo, hints, "concern for me," attempts at "praying" for me and rantings from my family and friends.

Re: billboards, I like the basics we've seen to this point. Either "One Nation, Indivisible," or "Don't Believe in God? You're Not Alone." The second of those two has already gotten air time on I-480, and I LIKE it and the first.

Anymore Billboard ideas??
