SO! I'm thinking about making a line of jewelry (and accessories, home decor etc) that have an atheist theme. I have a few ideas for necklace pendants, coffee mugs and such, and I plan to make a website called ArtofAtheism.. Does anyone know how to get a silver smith sponsor? Or know anyone who works with cheap metals?

I dunno, the only thing I'm comming up with is the Renn Faire community.  They have a lot of metalworkers.  I'm not sure how well they'd fit into your budget, though.  They tend not to run cheap.  Maybe if your designs were relatively simple, and you did a bulk order, it would come out to a reasonable price.

No problem.  Plus, you get to slap the 'hand-made' label on the stuff, which adds to the price you can charge.

@melody, when i was a jewelry student i had a lot of success working with copper wire esp heavier stuff found in mains wiring. fairly cheap (or free if you find salvage) and about the same 'feel' as silver. so good for exploring ideas with for final work with not so cheap materials.

Isn't copper pretty freaking expensive nowadays, though?  Or is it just expensive relative to the dirt cheap prices it was going for, before China went high tech?

Copper is a good idea. I think I can get a good price at Micheal's or some place. I may just end up making the jewelry from sculpting wire. It's less expensive but it doesn't look too bad if formed right.

I just hope the jewelry doesn't end up looking like the atheistic equivalent of a crucifix. After all, atheism isn't a religion.  I feel like a vampire when I see someone wearing a crucifix, particularly around his/her neck!
