Good work! My wife and I were just visiting family in Asheville and attended a summer class at UNCA Reuters Center taught by Carl Ricciardelli on The History of Disbelief. Quite interesting and great to see so many older folks engaged with the subject. I spoke to Carl after class and he was interested in reading my new book, Life After Faith. More freethinking in NC!

aerie - the SO and I are in Wilkes County every weekend (Moravian Falls). Maybe we can meet up for coffee or something sometime.

No worries. It's not like we're distracting the flow of other conversations, around here.

Personally, I just use free weights and go for long walks. I really need an elliptical trainer around the house, and then I'm all set.

yeah. In the back of my mind when I posted i think I was looking for a gym/carpool buddy though and just put down Garner/Clayton because of the gym's location. Not many of my friends go there. I usually go solo, but I'm suddenly without wheels for possibly a month or two and didn't wanna miss too many days and then have to work my way back up. Eh, I guess I should try harder to talk to people while I'm there and I wouldn't have this problem. lol. Being too introverted is a hard habit to break at my age though. Anyways, off topic rambling done now. (I do that a lot.)

Raleigh, if that's what you mean. The Garner/Clayton area isn't usually an area that people focus on. There are a whole bunch of us in Raleigh, Chapel Hill/Carrboro, and Durham.

how many here in the Garner/Clayton area? Anyone?

Ouch. Yeah. At least you're within driving distance of Winston-Salem (had to look it up to see where Yadkin was), but the fact that it's now a considerable drive to even get to a city the size of Winston-Salem is a bit of a step down, I imagine.

Is Winston-Salem itself at least a tolerably liberal city, like Greensboro is supposed to be? I've never really been to the Triad, except to drive out the other side, on my way out of state.

Glad to find the NC group! I grew up in Cary, on to Raleigh, then b/c of divorce, etc., living in rural WNC hell, in Yadkin County. I miss the Triangle area so much! I come from a family of fundies, (our family dog was named 'Reagan', yes after their 2nd god, the former prez.). I'm happily divorced w/ 1 daughter in HS & 1 off to AppState in the Fall. It's nice to know I'm not out here by my lonesome!

Where did you see that Rich, I looked online and saw nothing about it, must have been really recently. I thought it was a good move to use the American flag as a backdrop for that ad because if someone is defacing the billboard they are also defacing the flag, showing a complete lack of respect for this country that they claim to have.
