I’ve seen this movie more times than I can remember. Back when cable first became popular, they would play the same movie over and over again, often back to back. I saw A Clockwork Orange and Mommy, Dearest more than any teenage boy ever should.

I finally both read and listened to the book back in the mid 90s, and this month decided to revisit the movie and audio book once again. I think I appreciate the writing and language much more this time around. Perhaps it is because I am older.

This is a very good production of the book as read by Tom Hollander (I safely assume this guy). Actually, he doesn’t read it, he performs it. Nothing worse than a bad reading of a good book.

I am attaching only one track from the book itself, but I am including two tracks which are actually a more modern preface written by Anthony Burgess himself. I think you guys will find this preface interesting.

Here’s the book’s Wikipedia page, and here is a dictionary of the terms used in the book.

Since we already have a “Talk Like a Pirate” day, I really think we need a “Talk Like They Do in A Clockwork Orange” day. Whaddya think? I think it’s a dobby idea.

You know, I loved the movie but I had never read the book. Thanks for the suggestion. I shall give it a try. I think I might actually listen to it as well.
