I just finished reading The Meme Machine. Finally! I’ve been so busy lately that it took me forever.

This is a very good book, and perhaps the best place to start if you want to get familiar with memes. Blackmore is a decent and humble writer, and she is not afraid to say when she does not have the answer to the questions she poses.

Perhaps one of the most important arguments she makes in the book is for meme-gene co-evolution. I have scanned in the 1st chapter, the 7th chapter (on language), and the 8th chapter (on meme-gene co-evolution) for you here.

Here is the book’s official site.

It's one of my favorite books and life changing. Check out my review on Amazon.

I was impressed by the memetic interpretation of why gays are an "abomination." What a nasty thing to call somebody—like they're freaks from a horror movie.

Gays don't reproduce and don't generally serve as a vector. They're a dead end for the memeplex, and better serve as scapegoats to add group cohesion.

Like another book says, it's a selfish meme.
