I read the book awhile back. I recall finding the jargon a bit difficult - even though there was a glossary at the back as I recall. Switching to the glossary frequently made for a slower read, especially during the first chapter or two.
Anyhow, it was a great read and I really enjoyed it. Will Self is taking a crack at any ancient dogma-based religion, OK the Abrahamic ones. It was interesting to see that memorising the Cabbie runs was important, even though they were meaningless in their future world. This is precisely equivalent to the many, many Muslims who only 'know' the Koran in Arabic - even though they cannot speak Arabic, and so while they can say the words, they have little, if any, understanding of what the words say.
