Comment by carbon14 on November 29, 2011 at 12:30pm That's great. I got at least one other in the Tucumcari area that is interested.
There's a group of scientists from, I think, UNM that call themselves New Mexicans for Science and Reason. We might pull a speaker out of them. Especially if they bring the thermite.
Comment by Amanda Schneider on November 28, 2011 at 12:22am I'm down with that. I can do my best to get speakers, raise money, organize, etc. Maybe those in NM who feel they have no voice, can have one too. We know we're not alone, we just have to materialize it!
Comment by carbon14 on November 28, 2011 at 12:07am What about a Reason Rally Santa Fe, guys?
Comment by Amanda Schneider on November 27, 2011 at 9:38am Albuquerque also has an Atheist and Freethinkers group. I'd love to go to one of those conventions too. I'd also love, if one day, we had one in New Mexico! I'm working on it.... :)
Comment by Roxane Murray on November 27, 2011 at 9:34am According to meetup.com, Albuquerque has both a Secular Humanist group and a Freedom From Religion Foundation chapter--meeting info available only to members.
I haven't had time to think about the Reason Rally yet--we've had two deaths in the family since August, and now it's the holidays. I'd sure like to go. I'd also love to go to an atheist convention someday, like Skepticon or TAM or something.
Comment by Amanda Schneider on November 27, 2011 at 1:09am There is still a meet up in Albuquerque. I just started one in Los Alamos. I like the 'real life' thing. I think it would be cool to have a monthly or quarterly meeting for New Mexico atheists.
Comment by rockytij on November 27, 2011 at 12:49am I think many (or most) of us aren't really "involved" in real life. Some participate in forums or places like this. Or we just sit back and lurk. Or we're most often just apatheists--letting apathy take over. There used to be a meetup group that met once a month in Albuquerque, but I'm not sure if they still do. There were maybe a half dozen regulars.
Comment by Amanda Schneider on November 27, 2011 at 12:10am My boyfriend and I are trying to get out there for the Reason Rally. I have another question though, how do we get New Mexican atheists together? I have several ideas for an event. Are all of you involved in atheists groups? If so, where are they? I think the atheists in New Mexico are so spread out that we don't have the opportunity to organize!
Comment by Jenn Rivera on November 25, 2011 at 11:16pm Thanks, Rocky! I don't have much to add as of now. :( Oh well, I'd be happy to join in on any conversations if they ever do get started. I hope this board gets more use soon.
