I couldn't believe when I searched for a music discussion nothing showed up! I know there have to be some music loving atheists here. Share it with us!

Of all the American symphonic conductors who ever were, they may be no greater jack-of-all-trades: conductor, composer and teacher (especially that last) than Leonard Bernstein. Certainly, he was…Continue

Comment by James Yount on June 22, 2012 at 9:48pm Gregg Varlotta welcome to the group! I'm glad to have a fellow Arizonan here.
Comment by James Yount on June 23, 2012 at 1:32am Sometimes I see a work of art or hear a beautiful song that was inspired by religion and start to feel that there is a place for religion in a truly good and loving world. Then the religious open up their mouth and try as hard as they can to prove me wrong. Here is an example of a beautiful song that had me feeling the unity until I read the comments under it....
Comment by James Yount on June 23, 2012 at 2:36am No prob Steph. In truth the song reminds me more of Shrek than it does religion.
Comment by James Yount on June 23, 2012 at 8:22pm Alan, welcome to the group!
Comment by Tony Carroll on June 23, 2012 at 9:02pm Two of my favorite things. Quirky, funny, somewhat subversive music. The Phenomenauts. And Neil deGrasse Tyson, the man himself!
Song title, ' I'm With Neil'.
Comment by James Yount on July 11, 2012 at 11:08am Evidently there was a group on the nexus for music lovers already. Ruth Gardner let me know. Here's the link if you guys are interested: http://www.atheistnexus.org/group/thebandstand
James, I think there's a place for expanding what "religion" is about, for example as the Ethical Culture movement (which just happens to not mention any gods) does.
Anyway, this video would also be appropriate in the groups Hang With Friends or Profanely Happy:
An Abridged History of Western Music in 16 Genres (from Gregorian and baroque to rap, house, and more, in less than three minutes)

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…

This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.
I work in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors who admit patients are general MDs. (Psychiatrists see patients after admission) Yesterday evening we received several calls from irate parents. A new doctor who was doing admissions yesterday actually…

What do you think of this,
Nathan Young,
No Jason Torpy it is you that should be banned for promoting atheism, a belief that has no foundation in reality and zero proof behind it. The letter was a mockery of your atheist beliefs. I request to the board here that they remove Jason for his unverifiable beliefs in atheism for which he has no proof other than his arrogance. The letter was a mockery of atheism. Atheism is stupid and it should be mocked and it…

What do you think of this Facebook comment?
Nathan Young to Jason Torpy,
for once you and I can agree on something. We should disrespect beliefs that are untenable such as the belief that there is no God. Indeed for me to respect you Jason, I cannot respect your belief in non-belief in atheism. Your atheism comes across as arrogrance, smugness, and self righteous. Indeed after reading "An Open Letter to My Religious Friends" I penned one…
