"The Rainbow Connection" was written for The Muppet Movie and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Song in 1979. It is sung by Kermit as the movie's opening number and reprised by the whole cast of Muppets at the end of the movie. The single of this song reached #25 on Billboard's "Hot 100 Singles" chart in 1979.

Why are there so many songs about rainbows and what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions, and rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it.
I know they're wrong wait and see.

Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.
Who said that wishes would be heard and answered when wished on the morningstar?

Someone thought of that and someone believed it.
Look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing and what do we think we might see?

Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.
All of us under its spell.
We know that it's probably magic.
Have you been half asleep and have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name.

Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors.
The voice might be one and the same.

I've heard it too many times to ignore it.
It's something that I'm supposed to be.

Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, the lovers, the dreamers and me.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, the lovers, the dreamers and me.

Me First & the Gimmie Gimmies covered this tune!  Let me see if I can attach it...it's a big faster and louder than the original.  Me First & the Gimmie Gimmies do a lot of great covers.  (This tune if from Me First & the Gimmie Gimmies Are a Drag" and features a lot of fun show tunes...check it out!)  Enjoy!

 A different version

Thank you Paula!

BTW, I had no idea this was from a Muppet Movie!!

Of all the productions featuring the Muppets, I still think their first effort - THIS - is far and away THE BEST of their work.  It has a gentle innocence which sustains from this wonderful opening number, through Kermit's trials and tribulations to the triumphant finale with more Muppets on stage than I suspect ANYONE had ever seen before that time, and possibly since.

I think it may be that that we all have our own Rainbow Connection, our own connection to serendipity and wonder ... and all it takes is for each of us to have the bravery in a too-cynical time to seek it out.

And just for fun ... allow me to suggest a most excellent cover of Kermit's effort:

Thanks, Willie.

Thank you so much Loren for the Willie Nelson video!

A very soft and lovely version. Thanks Loren.

A very special way to start a beautiful day. Thanks Steff. This is a keeper.

I am sorry Steph, I misspelled your name.

That's ok Joan - I am very laid back - so glad you like the cute song.

It's one of my favorites in fact. I love the Muppets and watched them when I was little.
