You never know. Alien beings smart enough to travel the galaxy might not be any smarter than the average American. They might arrive with a book they'll expect us to believe... Someone should make the movie "Missionaries From Space".

Speaking of movies that were ruined by their endings, the 2005 re-make of "War of the Worlds" falls into that category for me (not that it could have been a "great" movie). H.G. Wells's ending was brilliant in the 19th century when he wrote it and surprising in 1953 in the first movie version. But in 2005 the notion of alien beings smart enough to travel the galaxy to get to Earth but too dumb to protect themselves from infectious biological agents to which they have no resistance is, well, "profoundly stupid".

I think M Night has two good movies: The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable. Signs was good right up to the end. But the end was so profoundly stupid — alien beings smart enough to travel the galaxy to get to Earth don't know that the planet is 2/3 water, a substance which will kill them easily (kids with squirt guns could kick their asses) — that it ruins the entire movie.

There was a time when you were expected to be "well read" to understand the references in polite conversation, these days one must be "well viewed", everything from classic movies to the latest viral video. (you havn't seen Mr.Deity?? O NO You didn't!)

I never worry about whether younger viewers will get something. Everyone needs to be culturally literate, and the 2001 reference is simply a door opening to them and telling them to get up to speed. That's what I did when I was younger.

Brian, that pre-creation episode ending was great, verrry good, but did you worry that some of your younger viewers would not get the joke? Even though it's a classic movie? Wait...did I just admit I'm not a younger viewer?

I like the idea of the law firm of Null & Void. That's funny. But you missed the most obvious -- Void where prohibited.
