Re: Jonathan

That's the thing about non-believers. Trying to form us into a cohesive unit is like herding cats. We're non-group thinkers almost by definition. Christians can set aside the majority of their issues between denominations and rally around a central cause. We're not so lucky. We cover all backgrounds, all political leanings, all the different social classes, social movements, etc.

Right now I think the thing to do is just be active. Support the group or groups in your area you enjoy by having get-togethers and, if you've a mind, try to do some volunteer work as an atheist group. Get the word out that atheists are in the community and you want to help just as much as the next guy. One of the ideas I was thinking of proposing to the St. Louis Atheist meet-up group was adopting a highway. We'd have our name on the little blue sign and that would be sure to draw some eyes. What would have been really fun is if we were immediately flanked by two Christian groups that didn't want to be out-charitied.

What is the long term strategy for Missouri? Are we going to form some sort of show me state alliance or are we just focusing on planting atheist groups throughout the state.

Hey y'all. I'm not actually in Missouri at the moment, but I was born and raised there. I'm out of the country in South Korea at the moment, but I thought I'd join as a show of support to my fellow Godless Missourians. I was/am a member of the St. Louis Atheist Meet-Up group and attended their get togethers regularly. When I'm back in town, maybe I'll see some of you there.

Just a reminder for people living near Joplin Missouri (MO). If you are an Atheist, Agnostic, Freethinker, Skeptic, or the like... Visit us at: http://www.joplinfreethinkers.org

We meet twice a week every week. We have topic hat discussions, coffee talk, games, jokes, events, and much more. We have been very active since our begining in January of this year, 2009.

We have hosted guest speaker Darrel Ray, Author of The God Virus: How Religion Infects our lives and culture, on two occasions.

The only thing missing is YOU!

Remember to check out our calendar and forum for deatils about our next meeting! they are located on the site above.

House Springs, Missouri...which is practically littered by separate churchs. xD

Finally glad to find a place on the net like this.
