I hope you don't mind if I post this here, just delete it if it's not allowed, but I started a petition on the White House's web site about removing "In God We Trust" from government buildings, pledges and currency. If you agree, I'd be thrilled if you signed it. Thanks!…/remove-god-we-t…/LnhPPDdB

Hello, Michigan atheists. I live in CA and have since 1973 with a brief two and a half year hiatus in Barfallo, NY. I am originally from Bay City, and became a member of the BC Free Methodist Church, went to an FMC college (Greenville, in Illinois) where I studied for the ministry. After being thrown out for drinking (a no-no amongst those of a conservative Wesleyan persuasion), I eventually ended up in southern California for five years, then was transferred to San Francisco by my employer, the Southern Pacific RR. The year I turned 40, I had a spiritual awakening in 1984 (I had been living as an atheist since I was about 27, but it was an emotional response to my struggle with sexual orientation), but it was a decidedly liberal version of my former fundamentalist self. After moving to Buffalo and then returning to the Bay Area, I became homeless for about nine months, and at that time I began to explore unbelief from an intellectual viewpoint, and have not had a shred of faith for over a decade. I have a son from an early marriage, and he wants me to move back to MI, in the Grand Rapids area, and while I may, I'm having some difficulty with it due to the extreme Republican turn the state has taken. Looking forward to conversing with my former home state infidels.

Hello fellow MI atheists!  I havn't been on this site for awhile, thought I'd give it a chance again.  I am interested in making new friends on and off line.  If anyone is interested let me know.

[DetroitASC] Important Event for All Atheists in Michigan

In the first week of June, secular allies across your state will come together for a historic conversation you don’t want to miss!

The Secular Coalition for America is hosting an initial organizing call to form a Secular Coalition state chapter in your state. This call is open to all individuals and organizations interested in defending the secular character of your state government and protecting the rights of nontheists!

The call schedule is:
Michigan on Wednesday June 6th at 2pm ET

The conference call number is 530-881-1400. Enter the code 978895 to join.

On the call they will be discussing the mission, purpose, and goals of the SCA chapters, the resources SCA can provide to SCA Chapters, the secular lobbying needs of your state, and the organizational structure of the chapters including leadership positions. No one is required to speak up, but there will be opportunities to do so.

Once our state chapter is organized, monthly calls will become a way to educate and inform as many state citizens as possible about legislation that threatens secular government or demeans nontheists, and coordinate efforts to combat it before it can become law!

For more information please visit the state chapters page on their website.

Please join the call and encourage others to do the same by getting the word out that this call is happening!
