@All & Keon, Several groups are coalesced in the Metro Detroit Area and are listed, with info and connect links, on Detroit Coalition of Reason’s website.  There is a section in the Michigan
Secular Groups list
for Southeast Michigan.  The MSG
.pdf file
is also available online thanks to being stored on Detroit Atheists Meetup ‘Files’
page.

Brian - you should hook up with CFI in West Michigan.  They are a really strong group with awesome guest speakers and get togethers.  I am from Detroit but I get out the way to hang with the CFI guys.

Hey Brian,

I need to rack my brain a little more for GR proper, but not too far away in Kalamazoo is a great restaurant called Food Dance.  They have a little market in house, a bar, and sit-down dining.  Also great in Kzoo is Bell's Brewery.

I worked for a Creamery in Ann Arbor that sold cheese and gelato to food dance so i went out several times to demo product and eat goodies.

GR isn't the most exciting foodie town but I'll keep thinking.  But, the best peanut butter ever made comes from grand rapids - Koeze Cream-Nut.  Grab a jar, a good loaf of bread and some local preserves and you'll never look at a PBJ the same.

Hey, I'm stuck in Grand Rapids a week or two of every month. Who wants to hang out? What's more, is there any place to get anything edible around here?

My daughter sells what see calls Lollipails. They look like flower arrangements in a colorful pail, but the flowers are lollipops. If you are interested visit Leah's Lollipails. Livonia Area

Nichole, when the kids would tell me that, I would just laugh it off and say I'd rather be in hell because that's where the real party is. And no, I don't go to a religious school

I say discuss it over with the other atheists you know.  Maybe make a group in secret (If anyone asks just tell them it's Wicca or something since they don't seem to care about that.  Although they might not believe you because it's not Jr. High lol)

I wasn't ostracized for being an atheist, I was ostracized for being a goth (and before that just for being weird.)

I can't mention this video enough though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YxdM1WChHc and if I didn't have to go DJ I'd probably sit and watch it again.  The video makes a lot of points but the one I'm talking about is that the strongest thing anyone can do for the community is to come out as an Atheist.  The video parallels our movement with the gay movement of the 1970's.  Statistics show that tolerance will go up as people are more accepting if they knows a homosexual/atheist personally.  Unlike the movement of the 1970's, most of us in this country at least have the luxury of not getting violently attacked for our beliefs.

At the very least try to find a friend who can drive and ask them if they would like to attend one of the meetings.  I haven't been to one of these since October when I started this DJ gig but I really did enjoy going when I could make it.  I've met a lot of good people through it and it has been a blast.  http://www.meetup.com/Detroit-Atheists/messages/boards/

But of course in the end the decision is yours.  It could either turn into people couldn't care less about it, or it could turn into this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTRDRP2n4Sk.

Best of luck either way :)
