Any other medical students out there? Or residents?

Newest book that looks worth reading, from one of my favourites, Ben Goldacre: Bad Pharma.

Something any non science-trained atheist needs to understand: Science is not immune from corruption and political manipulation by big corporations. Without scientific training or scientific research skills, it can be quite difficult to know the difference between truthful and science and lying science. This table might help a bit:

I find it easier to ignore them. See they won't understand that it's human effort that helped them. No matter how much you point they will cling to their idea. Infact  they will cling harder the more you point!

Sorry to hear about the Lupus thing mate. But many people think prayer helps and I don't think we should be the ones to correct them.

Put it this way, imagine going to a hospital to deal with the severe illness of one of our loved one only to have some douchebag doctor snort when we thank him asking us to thank the lord instead. It's just picking fights with people who have more to worry about than the supposed state of their eternal souls. (The current state of their very mortal and very temporary bodies for example...)

Just ignore it and smile, you can't change their minds and all you are doing is making them not like you. If they trample your belief then be my guest to wail on them, if they don't care and just say things like "praise jehovah/allah/vishnu" then respond with a silly "and Merck/Astra Zeneca/Bayer" to go with them.

Maybe we should encourage people to thank medical workers for their training and dedication.  Then if they say "Jesus/Odin/etc. helped me do it" you can tell them that you give them more credit than they give themselves.

Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film video

Posted by Debra Stevenson on May 21, 2013 at 2:37pm 0 Comments

There is a video of the Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film.  The man isn't demon possessed, there are likely no 'real' demons.  He's just delusional and doesn't want to accept personal responsiblity for his own behavior for his own dysfunctional life.

Do you support 'traditional' marriage, vot now ad

There is an ad that reads ' Do you support 'traditional' marriage? Vote Now"!  .

No, I don't support 'traditional' marriage because there is no such thing. I support heterosexual and same-sex couples marry each other legally , yes.  'Traditional' marriage promoters largely do not believe that heterosexual women are co-equal to their husbands.  Their only purpose in 'traditional' marriage is to sexually satisfy their husbands if they can and raise children and do all…

i've got no problem with everyone saying "merry christmas" on christmas day.  however, they've turned it into an entire holiday season where it lasts a month or more.  in those situations it should be perfectly acceptable to say "happy holidays" or call it a…

My first funeral as an atheist

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.

I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).

THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…
