As the group name implies, a place for atheists who love Middle Earth and things Tolkien to congregate, make friends and have discussions. I will have more to add here later.

Comment by Sentient Biped on December 24, 2011 at 10:51am Looking at the sidebar the posts here got me interested. Before I became atheist, as an early teenage bible reading fundamentalist Baptist, I fell in love with The Hobbit, then the Lord of the Rings. My paperbacks became worn, the covers and spines curled, and lost chunks of ink, and the edges of the pages brown with sweat. This was in my humid, non-airconditioned small town by the Mississippi river, not as humid as New Orleans but muggy enough. As the sweat dripped from my face onto the pages, I must have read these books 3 or 4 times, maybe more. I felt so guilty - this was a beautiful tale, and so not-Jesus, not-christian, not-baptist. I knew it wasn't real, so that made it OK. There are not many things I can quote from back then, even from the bible, but I still remember All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
