My favorite moment was probably when Frodo was talking to Gandalf in the mine. So do all who live to see such times. It goes to my favorite thing about all of Tolkiens books. Supposedly smart well educated people who dismiss them as children's tales because they can not see or understand the symbolism and meaning in them.
Its been my biggest pet peeve for over 10 years, how so many adults dismiss childres books/movies/tv/etc as childish. Some of the best entertainment is for "children". Recess is one of the best tv shows of all time, and its an animated disney show.
My favorite moment in the films is right after Gandalf exorcises the spirit of Saruman from King Théoden. The wizard suggests that the King's memory would return quicker if he held his sword. Théoden then draws his blade from its sheath and looks at it in wonder as his memory returns. His sidewise glance at the cowering Grimma Wormtongue is priceless.
