Lonely is a state of depression from the lack of support and respect of others.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4i__DI07Nw

Sometimes killing a person's integrity is murder.  How do you prove mental damage?  Mental health is probably one of the most overlooked areas of science of a modern civilized nation.

Loneliness is an unpleasant feeling in which a person feels a strong sense of emptiness and solitude resulting from inadequate levels of social relationships. However, it is a subjective experience.[1] Loneliness has also been described as social pain - a psychological mechanism meant to alert an individual of isolation and motivate her/him to seek social connections.[2]

Good wiki article on loneliness.

Thanks for the link Steph, I scanned thru some of it.  I have a dog and cat.  I do believe I need them too.

Glad you liked the article!

That is true Mr. M -- at some level we are all lonely. I happen to be a loner anyway -- I'm an Introvert. But being an Atheist -- does make things harder -- when you try to relate to other people.
