Comment by Chuck S on October 15, 2010 at 3:53am: D.O.S. If my son decides to get the operation when he is old enough to make that decision, I will drive him to the doctor myself. But to inflict it on him would haunt me for life. Infections and deaths caused by circumcisions do happen. Admittedly, they are rare but I wouldn't take the chance. But primarily, I just think that the decision should be his.

Comment by D.O.S on October 10, 2010 at 7:11am: Actually, there are reasons for circumcision. I've seen first hand what can happen in nursing homes to old men who are not circumcised. Infections in that area are not just gross to think about they are painful. Watching someone you care about deteriorate in health is bad enough without added unnecessary complications.

She is very aware that I am atheist, but just kind of doesn't think about it. She's not very practicing anyway. She doesn't eat pork, but she also doesn't waste time in prayer or fast during Ramadan. We have a son who will not be sexually mutilated (circumcised). I've made it pretty clear to her that he will decide his own future.

I go to church with my wife, when she goes. People just assume I'm a Christian unless I set them straight. Sometimes I do. Sometimes I don't. If I just want to cause problems in Sunday School, I just let them think I'm an unusually well-read Christian.

I told him that we could respect each other and treat each other right no matter what we believe or don't believe.I am not forcing my views on him and I told him not to force his god on me, besides I know enough about his god and I don't want any part in fairy tales. He should think about finding out about reality.

She told them and they promptly told her that I was going to hell. It destroyed her and She went crying to her mom. From all accounts, my wife tore the person a new one in front of all. She constantly defends me there. And I love her for it. I wonder if terrifying a little girl made them feel more "Christian".

Since she's not a fundamentalist, and she doesn't like to talk about religion anyway, it's not a problem for us. Her family is a problem, but only in that she's constantly apologizing for their fundamentalism. She's the daughter of a Southern Baptist minister, and she had already left the denomination before I met her. All of my in-laws are KJV Southern Baptists. She's actually discussed converting to Catholicism just to piss them off.

My husband still is. we are very quiet on the subject since my deconversion because when I being it up it never ends well. He still claims to believe because thats what he was taught as a child. I became a christian and never believed everything in the bible. We are in a weird place in our marriage. I feel fourtunate to find a group I can talk to.

It has been difficult for both of us especially when it comes to raising our two children. We decided to let them choose as they go.
