I'm a bit too lazy to sort through all of our group's discussions to see whether this exists already, but it's an interesting topic (to me, anyway). I'd like people to suggest, in whatever language they wish, words that do not exist but ought to. I'll start with an example: I think that English should include a word "malefit" that is an antonym for "benefit". I realize we have "drawback", but it just ain't the same.

Social service agencies is my area have taken to using the word "paramour" for a live-in lover of either sex. I rather like the way that sounds.
I like that. Very sensible to borrow a good word when we seem to be lacking one. That's why English is so gloriously chaotic. And I wouldn't have it any other way.
Don, I knew I could count on you. What a couth story! You have my dying gratitude (but it will be a long, slow death).
very clever
Haha. Love it. About fifteen years ago I wrote a poem - The First Time it Curred to Him

There he clined; daisically laxing in the sun. He found life mensely scure and horrant. He thought of himself as tuse. He deeply haled as he wistlessly velled at his own scurity. Perhaps his velry would veal life's true meaning. His suit of this line of thinking became ruth. Yet, perhaps it was dent not to bel against vention, and he should simply cept things as they curred. He verted back to his pose and drifted off to sleep.

Ironically, in researching this silliness I discovered that ruthful is a word meaning - compassionate.
That was funny.
In a comment on a blog, our compatriot Grundgetta wrote this: "Hey, I cyberknow this guy!"

Although an interesting neologism, I'm thinking there could/should be a better word. This seems like a textbook example of how languages have to change. Ten or twenty years ago, the concept didn't even make sense. Now, we're trying to figure out what to call something that millions of people do. The Facebook world has given rise to "Friend me" which is definitely different that "befriend me". I can tolerate this usage but what to call all the things that cloud around acquaintances of the cyber-persuasion?
Good question. I'm not sure I can come up with anything. Netfriend? VFF (virtual friend forever)?
Maybe an e-quaintance?
I like that!
I've seen e-quaintance used elsewhere. It should gain greater currency.
But let's drop the hyphen, like we did with email.

Signing Atheists

I was going to set up a group for Deaf Atheists, but figured I'd probably be alone in here if I did that so I figured I'd open it to anyone who knows sign language or even interested in learning it.
