I just found a video at the rental place called South of the Border directed by Oliver Stone, released in the USA on June 25, 2010. From the box description, it is a look at the new political tendencies towards the left in S.America and how this is a good thing. That will be my next rental, has anyone watched this?

election news. California

MAPA - the Mexican-American Political Association - is generally a centrist political machine because of its age and power. Imagine my surprise to see this:

The Mexican American Political Assocation (MAPA) has endorsed four Peace and Freedom candidates for CA statewide office:

* Marylou Cabral for Secretary of State
* Karen Martinez for Controller
* Debra Reiger for Treasurer
* Dina Padilla for Insurance Commissioner

An excerpt from the introduction to MAPA's recommendations:

The political challenge presented to all Latino and non-Latino organizations, typically tied to the Democratic Party, is the sad reality that the political party in power with majorities at the state and national level not observed since the 1970s has continued to pursue economic and social policies not in accord with its own core constituencies. Having said that, we are not confident that the Democratic Party in California or nationally will do anything beyond managing the crisis for big capital at the continued expense of working people.

R.E. Tea: Old jazz slang for cannabis. Are they getting stoned at the meetings? Could explain a lot.

Blow that gauge, get high with me"

Loved it. I too believe our capitalistic world would be entirely different without corporations, corporate rights, corporate welfare and stock exchanges...

We'll just break into one of the Fox News stations. They're not doing any news, anyway, right? :P

Ha, I totally missed the humour side of that! I'm not even sure whether today's Tea baggers know anything at all about the Boston Tea Party. So switching from a British/Chinese black tea, to a Japanese green tea.. hmm not sure people who know their history would see anything funny there... But perhaps in a landscape without understanding of the Boston Tea Party, maybe youth could find a "green" tea party OR a "green tea" party amusing. Who knows?

Well, I was just thinking that it seems there's a whole lot of unrest in the USA, a whole lot of people who are very upset with the way the country's being run, but at the same time it seems like conservatives are the only ones visibly, vocally agitating for change. In the process, they're promoting a lot of bad economics and bad politics. Why shouldn't leftists be having "Tea Parties" instead of conservatives?

As for the name, from what I've seen the Green Party is the only thing resembling an option for leftists outside the Democrats, assuming you want a snowball's chance of getting elected. Plus, there's no such thing as "commie tea", but there definitely is green tea. Hosting some "Green Tea Parties" just seemed like a way to raise visibility of the left's perspective on things.

Here in Utah, while most people probably wouldn't listen, I think the problem has more to do with ignorance than anything, especially with young people; when I talk to people my age about politics, most of them just haven't ever heard of the Pentagon Papers, or why private business could actually NOT be efficient, or what corporate imperialism is, and so on, but when I give them a few links, they'll read them, and then say "Wow! I had no idea! Thanks for sharing this!" So, speaking from my perspective as a young person in a conservative area, it seems like visibility is the main issue for leftists, and if we had some Tea Party parody to run, maybe it'd get a little media attention.

There was a short period of time in the late 80s where being a "green" included having left wing ideas, but that time has pretty much gone. Because "green" politics usually places the environment ahead of unions and workers, these factions have pretty much recinded any connections to "green" politics. And I agree with this. The Green Party leitmotiv is usually "Not Left or Right but ahead." Personally I think a major turn in politics to accommodate environmental preservation would indeed create a huge change in the job market, but not necessarily for the worse, as jobs would switch from one sector to another.

Unless you meant something entirely different by "Green Tea Party"?

Not believing in an afterlife does not mean i am a "sad' person.

I work in healthcare in a long term care facility and I deal with death on a regular basis. About a year ago the opportunity arose for me to take a palliative care course through my work.  I enjoyed it for the most part. It dealt with topics such as end of life care, pain relief and addressing the spiritual needs of different individuals based on their religious beliefs.There was one instance however that was decidedly unpleasant, and unfortunately really overshadowed the rest of my time in the…See More
