Hola.

Thank you for sharing more about Freemasons. I have not read about them officially, so I honestly don't know much about them. However, I do want to stay in touch with you, for sure, and hope to see you in April. Let's keep sharing more about each other, so that we can feel more comfortable when we finally meet, okay?

Joe, I understand. The only reason I'm a freemason is for the same reason you are a member of Nexus here, sometimes we have to band together to change the world.  80% of the members in my lodge are atheists, are well connected and are helping this country become more secular.  Freemasonry were the people that brought light to the Age of Enlightenment in Europe which gave us the basis to form in the U.S. the first secular government with the first secular constitution in the world.  Many of the founding fathers were not religious and were freemasons including my hero Ben Franklin plus 14 other US presidents since then. Unfortunately, branding is something that comes when groups of any kind form, but I understand your feelings.

I look forward to meeting you in person in late April sometime.  Take care :-)

Gee David, I was "branded" a "born-again christian" for most of my adult life. I just don't want to be associated with anything that has the word "branding" in it. Sorry my friend, nothing personal. I wish you the best.

Joe, depending on the brand of freemasonry.  Most mainstream freemasons in the U.S. require a belief in a supreme being, but European (Continental) freemasonry, which can trace their roots back to the original founders of freemasonry believe in absolute freedom of conscience, which means you can be an atheist or a believer.  For 10 years I was a mainstream freemason until I resigned and then joined GWU, which was chartered by the Grand Orient of France and whose motto is: Liberty - Equality - Fraternity (same as the country of France).  I was in charge of a lodge of 380 members and the attached speech is what I gave when I resigned.A%20Conversation%20with%20a%20Friend.pdf.  Please let me know what you think :-)

David, don't Freemasons believe in a "supreme being"?

David Tamayo Comment by David Tamayo on December 16, 2011 at 4:32pm
