WELCOME TO THE KNIFE & FORK

THE KNIFE & FORK will be a group open to a broad range of food-related topics. You do not have to be a food snob, an epicure, or a bon vivant to join, participate, or enjoy this group. You just have to have the desire to share and explore old and new information on food and dining.

Discussion topics, articles, and questions can include, but are not limited to:

  • Food history and legend
  • Ingredient recognition, selection, storage, and preparation
  • Your favorite recipes, methods, and tips and tricks
  • Your favorite wines, beers, liquors, or cocktail recipes
  • Health & nutrition information for adults or children
  • Food allergy information, warnings, and replacements
  • Organic foods and pesticide information
  • Sanitation and food safety / preparation
  • Product labeling and government regulation
  • Food and product recalls
  • Culinary and dining etiquette, rituals, and customs
  • Food economics
  • Documentaries, books, cookbooks, and television shows
  • Bizarre or unusual foods and customs from around the world
  • Vitamins & supplements (with which you have direct experience)
  • Diet information (with which you have direct experience)
  • Agricultural or farming practices related to food quality or availability*

*For this item, please see Borderline Discussion Posts below.

Borderline Discussion Posts
It is inevitable that there will be some crossover in topics and issues related to food production and consumption. I am not forbidding these topics outright, but there may be a better venue for them. Use your best judgment and post the topic in the group that best fits the focus of the discussion. Please do not cross post the same discussion twice in different groups, as it is against Atheist Nexus policy to do so.

  • If you are interested in food and gardening, it makes more sense to join Godless in the Garden and post your discussions there.
  • If you are interested in how agriculture and modern farming affect the environment, please join Environmental Atheists.
  • If you are interested in socio-economic justice, family farms, and fair trade practices, please consider Consumer Ethics instead.
  • If animal welfare as it relates to food production and consumption is your thing, please join us in Humane Atheists.

is forbidden proselytizing about what? Kosher food?
Comment by Dallas the Phallus on August 9, 2009 at 10:07pm
@Felix: Forbidden to proselytize about food choices. Sometimes carnivores and vegetarians get into it, and I don't want that here. That's all. Everyone here is welcome to post anything they want, or ignore anything they want.

ok Dallas. You see, I follow the middle way: I eat both meat and vegetables :).
finally something not related with atheism ! (unless you know some atheist food recipe).
I'll ask my mother the recipes for some Transylvanian traditional dishes for Christmas and Easter.

@Felix, how about atheist angel food cake?

Do y'all like the name of the group okay? I struggled coming up with one I liked.

Great idea for a group. The name is perfect.

Dallas, I like the name. Sober and to the point.

What about a Lexicon for the 'foreigners' out here? I guess the 'sp' in 'tbsp' means 'spoon', but I'm clueless about many technical terms and acronyms found in recipes.

I think is good. If it was "the knife and pork" would sound well too. :)

Great idea. Adding the alternative names for vegetables would be a good idea as well. I'll start a post...

Death of a family member

Posted by Larry Taylor on May 20, 2013 at 8:15pm 5 Comments

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!

Posted by Christy Stewart on May 20, 2013 at 2:17pm 6 Comments

This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.

I work in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors who admit patients are general MDs. (Psychiatrists see patients after admission) Yesterday evening we received several calls from irate parents. A new doctor who was doing admissions yesterday actually…

anti-atheist rant from an Orthodox Mormon part 2

What do you think of this,

Nathan Young,

No Jason Torpy it is you that should be banned for promoting atheism, a belief that has no foundation in reality and zero proof behind it.  The letter was a mockery of your atheist beliefs.  I request to the board here that they remove Jason for his unverifiable beliefs in atheism for which he has no proof other than his arrogance.  The letter was a mockery of atheism.  Atheism is stupid and it should be mocked and it…
