Man, why couldn’t they have built that thing in Ohio….I’m going to skip the PZ trip.
I know a bunch of “Meet-up” people that are going, which brings me to the meeting others question. I found some groups online at Meetup.com that are good. There is an Atheist Meet-up once a month and a Drinking Skeptically Meet-up once a month in Lexington. I try not to miss the Drinking Skeptically one if I can help it.

Hello everyone, new to this side. I want to say hey and ask, although i know it goes against the atheist nature, but is there a group, club, gathering, meeting place here in Kentucky for us atheist? However i love my theist friends but I really want to make some like minded friends. Please let me know, Thanks.

My guess is he’ll consider you a Commie. However, as long as you have no problem killing those godless heathens, he might let it slide :-).

Just had an idea. I'm going to tell my catholic drill sergeant I'm an atheist when I see him in a week. Wonder how this is gonna go...

I have to admit, some of my fanatical christian friends know I'm atheist and they respect me regardless. It's mutual, of course, but I find it interesting that the ones who have such a contrasting world view can have so much respect of my beliefs when people like them would have killed me for such a belief just a half century ago. Ain't life interesting?

Yup, I'm a current student at MSU, good place. A few religious maniacs, but some very great professors.

I've encountered religious discrimination my entire life, even when I considered myself sort of a 'deist'. I never ever got Christianity, even as a kid I knew it was bullshit, but I still kind of thought there were possibilities for God or gods. Even then very close family told me I had horrible convictions and if I didn't change I would most defiantly pay for it.

Now as an atheist I'm asked by people why I just don't go on a murderous rampage if I don't have God...I'm asked why do even consider living? C'mon people!

There will always be an evergrowing misconception of freethought, as long as there are churches, there is always ignorance.

Did I see some Morehead State people in the group? Very nice.
As to “coming out” in Kentucky, I thought there would be this big deal about it but I quickly realized that no one really cared what I thought in the first place so it wasn’t so bad. I would encourage more free-thinkers to move here for a few reasons. First, I think apprehensions might be worse than the reality. Second, the more exposure to free-thinkers people have, the fewer misconceptions there will be about them. Lastly, I need more friends to talk to .

I think I just sent a friend request to Jennie while trying to join the group. Very sorry or Yeaaah…depending.
Anyway, I’m glad to be here and I’d love to drag some of this non-theist support eastward if possible.

I only announce it when someone says the trite and stupid, “It’s in god’s hands now” when I take care of sick people. I feel like throwing up my hands and teling patients to go home and let god fix it then.

I haven't had a problem with other religious individuals in KY. I've been an atheist my entire life and I can't say I've ever encountered any sort of discrimination based on that. I don't run around announcing I'm an atheist everwhere I go. I just don't think about it on a routine basis I guess. (Shit god still doesn't exist again today). ahhh Atheism.. am I doing it wrong?
